This year, 168 educators across Minnesota have been selected as Teacher of the Year Award candidates, including Pine Bend Elementary School's Kelly Darrow and Simley High School's Deana Walsh. Nearly 20 Simley High School music students were chosen to represent their school in this year's Metro East All-Conference Choir and Band. Students were chosen for their outstanding talent and learned challenging pieces for the January 14 performance.

Simley High School is currently reviewing its Top 10 recognition. Any changes to the recognition will not affect class rank or any students enrolled in Simley at the time of the decision.

Artwork from eight Simley High School student artists will be featured at this year's High School Honors Exhibition, January 17-30.

At their January meeting, the Inver Grove Heights Schools 2018-2019 Student Advisory Council talked about what defines engagement in the classroom to students. The council will also work on gathering other student opinions and giving teachers insight into strategies that can increase classroom engagement.
