Seventh graders in Inver Grove Heights Middle School’s AVID classes hold a college fair for other students each year. AVID classes provide support for college-bound students by teaching critical academic skills, such as reading, writing, and advanced study techniques, as well as personal and professional skills, such as organization, collaboration, and communication. Their college fair project helped students practice their research and public speaking skills while they learned about their options for the future.
Each student picked a college that they might be interested in attending after high school. They researched admissions, academic options, extracurricular opportunities, and everything else their chosen college offers. Students learned research techniques and what resources are available to help them get full, accurate information in their college search.
Students presented their findings to IGH Middle School and Simley High School classes that attended the fair. AVID students gave everyone who visited their table a formal presentation and then answered any questions they had. The fair gave both AVID students and those attending the fair an opportunity to think about their goals for the future and whether each college would be a good fit for them. Great job, students

Los estudiantes de séptimo grado de las clases AVID de Inver Grove Heights Middle School celebran una feria universitaria para otros estudiantes cada año. Las clases AVID brindan apoyo a los estudiantes que van a la universidad al enseñarles habilidades académicas críticas, como lectura, escritura y técnicas de estudio avanzadas, así como habilidades personales y profesionales, como organización, colaboración y comunicación. Su proyecto de feria universitaria ayudó a los estudiantes a practicar sus habilidades de investigación y oratoria mientras aprendían sobre sus opciones para el futuro.
Cada estudiante eligió una universidad a la que podría interesarle asistir después de la secundaria. Investigaron admisiones, opciones académicas, oportunidades extracurriculares y todo lo demás que ofrece la universidad elegida. Los estudiantes aprendieron técnicas de investigación y qué recursos están disponibles para ayudarlos a obtener información completa y precisa en su búsqueda de universidades.
Los estudiantes presentaron sus hallazgos a las clases de IGH Middle School y Simley High School que asistieron a la feria. Los estudiantes de AVID hicieron una presentación formal a todos los que visitaron su mesa y luego respondieron cualquier pregunta que tuvieran. La feria les dio a los estudiantes de AVID y a los asistentes la oportunidad de pensar en sus metas para el futuro y si cada universidad sería una buena opción para ellos. ¡Buen trabajo, estudiantes!
