Congratulations to Simley High School Principal Jerry Sakala on his retirement and on the great work he has done over the past 32 years. Throughout March, Inver Grove Heights Schools (ISD 199) worked on identifying a new leader who will continue to grow Simley. The district is pleased to announce that Carrie Gillund has been chosen as Simley High School’s new principal.
Ms. Gillund was chosen from a pool of highly skilled candidates. She currently serves as the associate principal at Mahtomedi High School. She brings eight years of experience as an administrator and more than a decade as a classroom teacher to the position. During her career, she has created educational opportunities in which students can feel safe to learn and grow.
“I enjoy helping high school students discover who they are becoming as young adults in our global society,” she said. “It is important to me that we are helping prepare students for college, career, and life beyond high school.”
Similar to the district’s 199 Future Ready goals of building belonging, relationships, and engagement, Ms. Gillund says she enjoys building relationships with students, families, staff, and community members and welcomes opportunities to connect. She also believes that, by encouraging educators to be innovative and transformational, classrooms can be spaces where all students become agents of their own personal success.

Felicitaciones al director de Simley High School, Jerry Sakala, por su jubilación y por el gran trabajo que ha realizado durante los últimos 32 años. La Sra. Gillund fue elegida entre un grupo de candidatos altamente calificados. Actualmente se desempeña como directora asociada en Mahtomedi High School. Ella aporta al puesto ocho años de experiencia como administradora y más de una década como maestra de aula. Durante su carrera, ha creado oportunidades educativas en las que los estudiantes pueden sentirse seguros para aprender y crecer.
"Disfruto ayudando a los estudiantes de secundaria a descubrir en quiénes se están convirtiendo como adultos jóvenes en nuestra sociedad global", ella dijo. "Para mí es importante que ayudemos a preparar a los estudiantes para la universidad, la carrera y la vida más allá de la escuela secundaria".
De manera similar a los objetivos de 199 Future Ready del distrito de fomentar la pertenencia, las relaciones y el compromiso, la Sra. Gillund dice que disfruta establecer relaciones con los estudiantes, las familias, el personal y los miembros de la comunidad y agradece las oportunidades para conectarse. También cree que, al alentar a los educadores a ser innovadores y transformadores, las aulas pueden ser espacios donde todos los estudiantes se conviertan en agentes de su propio éxito personal.
