Simley Announcements 5-1-24
Published on May 1, 2024 10:20

  • For those of you that were unable to attend the awards ceremony last night, you can pick-up your awards in the main office after the 1st hour.
  • Congrats to the Simley boys tennis team on a 61 victory over St Paul North. That's two in a row, catch them in action on Friday!
  • Golf Announcement: The greens were too slow. The winds were gusty. The trees had ball magnets. I lost my wedge. The weather was too nice. The excuses were flying fast and furious as the Simley Boys Golf team traveled to Hastings Golf Club in the second round of Metro East Conference play. But the Spartans showed great heart as they scrapped and struggled and scratched and scraped their way around the back nine and got themselves out of the holes they had dug on the front nine. The bogeys and doubles turned into pars and birdies as the Simley linksters did just enough to move up a notch in the standings from fourth place to third trailing only league leaders Mahtomedi and STA, who seem to have a step up on the rest on the Metro East. It looks as though 3rd place is going to be a battle down to the wire between your Simley Spartans, Hill-Murray, Hastings, and Two Rivers, but the smart money is on the Spartans if they continue to persevere in the face of the type of adversity they faced at Hastings.  Junior Elias Boone led the charge for Simley on the back nine with a one-under 35. The coaches asked the players to focus on finishing strong and Elias simply birdied two of the last three holes. Senior Justin Orn scraped his way to a solid 38, birdieing the 10th hole to settle his round. Senior Jake Stanton and Sophomore Charlie Martin contributed to the final score for the Spartans with Jake birdieing the double-dogleg tricky 16th hole and Chuck birdieing not one, not two, but three holes on the incoming nine. That?s the way to make lemonade out of the sour tasting fruit of the front nine. Senior Carson Gustafson and Junior Myles Feldman rounded out the scoring Simley.
  • Attention juniors and seniors: There are only 3 days left to purchase your prom tickets. All tickets must be purchased online through GoFan by Friday, May 3rd at the end of the school day.
  • Seniors, please check your class Schoology page and complete the Google Form about your favorite school lunches. The lunches that are picked the most will be served to all the schools in ISD 199 on May 31st, so cast your votes now!
