  • Golf Announcement:

Let it never be said that the Simley Boys golf team backs down from any challenge. On the palindromic Wednesday 4-24-24, the Spartans debuted at Dahlgren Golf Course to take on Holy Family, the #1 ranked team in the state. The Fire lived up to their reputation by winning the match 304-325, but the Spartans did not disappoint. On a tough day, as shown by the only time this season Holy Family shot in the 300?s, on a tricky course with hugely uphill greens and tight fairways no Simley player or coach had ever seen before, the linksters battled the entire round with good shots from every player. With a little course knowledge, the outcome may have not been different, but the Fire may have sweated over more putts on the closing holes. Actually, with the cold and wind we have seen so far this season, today it was nice to sweat a little in the clear blue skies.

Junior Elias Boone and Senior Justin Orn led the way with bookend 78?s. Both had steady rounds with Eli getting off the bogey train adding a birdie while Justin could not buy a birdie riding the saran wrap highway over the holes. Sophomore Charlie Martin and Junior Myles Feldman found themselves in the 80?s at the end of day, but still contributing to the team score, while Seniors Jake Stanton had a great putting day and Carson Gustafson improved his score from the day before by six strokes. We?ll see how Holy Family likes a little home cooking on the Spartans part when they visit Inver Wood late in the season.
