  • Golf Announcement: The Simley Boys Golf Team opened the Metro East season on Tuesday, April 23rd with a solid performance that merely whet the appetite of the team. To a player, they felt they left a few strokes on the course, not on the greens where the putters were much hotter than the temperature, but on the fairways. The Spartans were strong off the tee, but their approach shots were wayward, and their chips skittered across fast windswept greens at the tricky Goodrich Golf Course. St. Thomas Academy took team honors, with defending champion Mahtomedi suffering its first conference loss in three years. Simley was edged by Two Rivers by one stroke giving the Spartans a fourth-place finish, an acceptable, but disappointing start to its season.

Senior Justin, Mr. Medalist, Orn had the best score of the 54 competitors with a gutty 73 as the winds bounced between howling and strong, to pick up medalist honors for the second time in the first three events of season. Sophomore Charlie Martin had a smooth 76 that matched his silky swing. Senior Jake Stanton and Junior Elias Boone contributed to the team score for Simley by grinding out every shot on a tough day, while Senior Carson Gustafson and Junior Myles Feldman rounded out the scoring for the Spartans and let the rest of the Metro East teams know that the Spartans will be a force to be reckoned with for the entire season.

  • In a preview of the Metro East Conference Meet, the track and field team traveled to Mahtomedi to compete against the entire conference. The team earned five first place finishes and four new marks on the Simley Top Ten List. Overall the girls team was 3rd and the boys team was 6th.
