  • On a muddy, wet day at Valleywood Golf Course, the Simley Cross Country teams made history. For the second time in school history the Spartans qualified 3 athletes for the State Meet and for the first time it was 3 members of the girls team. Abi Lindquist finished in 6th place overall in a time of 19:32, Megan Gullerud 7th in 19:37, and 7th grader Annaleigh Schwab in 16th in 20:53, taking the 5th individual qualifier spot. For Lindquist her performance makes her the 2nd fastest in school history and it was her 2nd time being the fastest Simley XC runner, while Schwab is 6th fastest runner in school history.  Other notable performances for the girls team included PR’s by Maisy Komatsu, Samary Acuna Arroliga, and Zoe Diaz. Maisy and Samary finish their Simley careers as the 15th and 19th fastest runners in school history. Collectively the girls finished 4th with 114 points, the best team finish in program history.  For Boys, Nik Abrahamson once again was the fastest finisher and led the boys with a 36th place finish. Seniors Tyler Ngo and JJ Salas were the 2nd and 3rd runners, with Ngo running a season best time of 18:02 and Salas a personal best time of 18:33. 9th graders Dylan Pease and Gabe Sheppard rounded out the scoring for the Spartans with times of 19:33 and 19:36. The Boys team finished in 8th place.  It was the final XC races for seniors Maisy Komatsu, Samary Acuna Arroliga, Luvia Ramirez Gonzalez, Tyler Ngo, JJ Salas, and Thomas Lorentz.  Abi, Megan, and Annaleigh will race next Saturday in the State Meet Class AA Championship at the U of M Les Bolstad Golf Course at 2:45 p.m.  All Cross Country athletes should meet in Coach Gerber's room after school today for uniform turn in, captain voting, and yearbook information.
