Every athletic team in every season is always seeking that “Signature Win.” The Simley Girls Volleyball team earned that signature win on Thursday, September 14, by defeating Metro East champion favorite Hill-Murray. The victory was enough, but the sweetness was only increased as the Spartans triumphed in straight sets: 25-19, 26-24, 25-19 overcoming the Pioneers traditionally strong home court advantage. The Spartan volleyball team simply played its best match of the season. To put it in perspective, the front row has averaged five hitting errors a set over the first 10 matches of the season. Against Hill-Murray, the Spartans committed just three hitting errors for the entire match – one error a game. To have that successful hitting, the setter must  deliver the ball with near perfection and Junior Setter Glissa Gorter did just that, recording 24 assists. But the hitters must also be on fire and Seniors Avery Renslow, Kelsi Ries, Anesya McElmury, Gwynn Gorter, and Junior Addison Wood fanned the flames with kill after kill after kill. But points don’t come without great ball control and Senior libero Makayla Goldschmitz passed and dug the seams off the ball. In addition, Simley was hot from the service line and tossed in 11 aces in only 3 sets, led by Senior Sofia DeLao. All in all, it was a great team effort and kept the Spartans undefeated in the Metro East. The icing on the cake: it was also the coach’s 500th career win.

The Girls Swim and Dive Team stepped up to another challenging team.  Although they were defeated by the Zephyrs, the Spartan swim and dive team achieved 18 Seasonal and Personal Best Times.
