Simley Announcements 5-12-23
Published on May 12, 2023 09:34

As we wrap up Teacher Appreciation Week, students take the time today to let your teachers know what an amazing job they are doing and thank them for all that they do. The Asian American Alliance is hosting an AAPI Celebration on Monday, May 15th after school in the Spartan Center.  Bring your favorite Asian dish to share.  All are welcome.  Blood drive is today!

Teachers, if you receive reminder cards for student donors today, please hand them out in first hour. They are the students' pass to be excused for their appointment. There are over 100 apprenticeship paths you can choose from in Minnesota. As an apprentice, you aren’t just training for a job, you’re building a career. Technical instruction with on-the-job training equips you with the industry-specific knowledge you need to perform highly skilled work. Apprentices earn a salary as they train, classroom instruction is covered, and at the end of the program you will be a master in your field. Come learn more about MN registered apprenticeships from a special guest speaker on Tuesday, May 16th at 9:30 AM in the Student Center. Sign-up today with Ms. Kimble. Get the brooms out! Simley Boys varsity golf completed the sweep of perennial Metro East powerhouses Hill-Murray and St. Thomas Academy with a great team win at Keller Golf Course on Thursday, May 11th. In addition to Hill-Murray, Tartan’s golfers brought one of their best efforts of the season to mount an early challenge to the Spartans, but talent will out as Simley carded par after par after par until the Pioneers and the Titans blinked. Junior Justin Orn was the two-time medalist this week with a smooth even par 35 on a day where the pin positions were very demanding. Justin’s round was highlighted by a dart to two feet on the famous par-3 4th hole at Keller featuring a 50-foot oak tree guarding the front of the green offering no bailout and simply requiring a good golf shot. Senior Joey Stanton offered a 38 and made the best bogey of the day on the par-5 third hole by following up a “Joey Hook” about 50 yards out of bounds with four perfect shots after the two-stoke penalty. Senior Caden Renslow added a 39 to the team total and reminded his teammates that if you keep the big numbers off the scorecard, you can always contribute to the final score. Sophomore Elias Boone shut the door on the Pioneers and Titans despite a triple bogey on the Oak Tree hole by having a short memory and impressively grinding out four straight pars. Junior Jake Stanton and Freshman Charlie Martin rounded out the scoring for Simley. Are the Spartan Linksters peaking at the right time? Stay tuned. .
