The Simley baseball team won in exciting fashion the last two games with victories over Tartan and Hastings.  Both games were won in the bottom of the 7th inning with walk-off doubles by Derrick Dohmen and Carter Follman.  The Spartans next game is a double header against North St. Paul
There was a little bit of everything at the Simley Boys golf match versus Hill-Murray and Two Rivers on the back nine at Inver Wood on Tuesday, May 9th. There were birdies and bogies and pars and doubles and even the sighting of two snowmen on the par-5 10th hole. It was a “trap match” for the Spartans – one coming after two great wins over St. Thomas Academy against two teams that don’t have the scoring ability of the home team, but the scorecard tells the tale, not the story line before the match is played. The aforementioned 10th hole had the Simley linksters number as three of the top four seeded Spartans scored a seven and two eights (snowmen). From there, it took the next eight holes and the last Simley golfer on the course to eke out a one-stroke victory over the Pioneers and a seven-stroke victory over the Warriors. Senior Justin Orn was medalist for Simley after opening with a diffident double-bogey and shot even par over the remaining eight holes (38) featuring two birdies, which was matched by Sophomore Elias Boone who opened with a snide snowman and also shot even par thereafter (39)  two 2’s highlighted by birdies on both par-3’s. Senior Caden Renslow was unshakeable through the first six holes of his round until a couple of spurious spectators showed up to jinx his finish although he still brought in a strong 39. A furious comeback by Hill-Murray with birdies on 17 and 18 set the stage for Mr. 39’s (Senior Carl Lane) final hole heroics. After blistering a beautiful drive, Mr. 39’s second shot was less than elegant. But a tough pitch to 10 feet was followed by the putt of the day – a blast that slammed the back of the cup, jumped up, and fell back into the cup for a match winning par, a plucky finish to the match, and a valuable conference standing point. The Asian American Alliance is hosting an AAPI Celebration on Monday May 15th after school in the Spartan Center.  Bring your favorite Asian dish to share.  All are welcome.

Fall Performance Team and Winter Competitive Team tryout practices will take place on May 15 from 6-7:30pm, May 16 from 4-5:30pm and May 17 from 6-7:30pm. Tryouts will take place on Thursday, May 18 starting at 6:00pm. If you are currently in grades 5-11, you are welcome to tryout. On May 12, 2023 from 9am to 2pm in the North Gym, NHS and Student Council will be sponsoring a blood drive. Students 17 and older and staff can register during any lunch on Mondays and Wednesdays from April 17-May 10 OR by clicking the QR code on the posters hung up around school. The Red Cross is in need of blood, so please consider being a donor! 

We have four eSports teams competing in the state finals this weekend. One team is competing in Super Smash Bros. on Friday 05/12/23 at Mall of America from 3PM - 8PM . Three teams are competing in Fortnite on Sunday 05/14/23 at Mall of America from 2PM - 7PM. Tickets are $15 to attend.
The 2023 Summer Volleyball Camp will be held Monday, June 26th to Thursday, June 29th in the main gym at Simley HS. The registration flyer may be found at simleyvolleyball.com. Please note the registration deadline.
