We have four eSports teams competing in the state finals this weekend. One team is competing in Super Smash Bros. on Friday 05/12/23 at Mall of America from 3PM - 8PM . Three teams are competing in Fortnite on Sunday 05/14/23 at Mall of America from 2PM - 7PM. Tickets are $15 to attend. It looked for a while like the Boys Golf team’s match against Metro East rivals St. Thomas Academy and Two Rivers on Friday, May 5th would be rained out. At the end, the Cadets and the Warriors wished the skies had opened as the Spartans put out a solid effort from the first golfer to tee off to the last golfer to putt out. It is said that you cannot win a golf match on the first hole, but you can lose it. Five Simley golfers parred the first hole and brought it home in the end as St. Thomas also finished strongly. The highlights were many on Friday. Senior Joey Stanton birdied two holes in a row in the middle of his round including a dart to a foot on the par three fourth hole to end up as the Spartan medalist for the round with a one over par 37. Junior Justin Orn battled all day long as golf this day was not easy and made a gutsy up/up and down on the final hole for 39. Sophomore Elias Boone had the team shot of the day on the 8th hole with the Cadets making a furious late charge: a cold-blooded 9-iron to three feet on a tough par three and burying the putt for birdie. To put a bow on the match, Junior Jake Stanton navigated a second shot to the 18th green over a water hazard and a gaping sand trap and proceeded to two-putt with the match on the line and the toughest pin position on the course to match the 40 by Elias. The Spartans continue to score well in the Metro East as the season winds down. The 2023 Summer Volleyball Camp will be held Monday, June 26th to Thursday, June 29th in the main gym at Simley HS. The registration flyer may be found at simleyvolleyball.com. Please note the registration deadline. Athletes not competing in the True Team Meet on Tuesday had the opportunity to travel to Richfield Monday night to compete against the home team, MSA, and Totino-Grace. The team had several personal bests and four event champions: Sydney Ries in two events, Taylor Oster,  and Corey Picha. Top Finishers for the Girls:

  • Sydney Ries - 1st in the Shot Put and 1st in the High Jump
  • Taylor Oster - 1st in the Discus
