Simley Announcements 10-4-21

New Announcements:

The Simley Spartans have a new debate champion this week! Junior Alex Anaya went undefeated in five rounds this past Saturday in the Lakeville "Lucky Duck" Open. This weekend, Anaya and sophomore, Thomas Lorentz, will compete at the Rosemount Invitational. Good luck, Spartans!

The Simley Girls volleyball team traveled south on Saturday, October 2nd to compete in the Pine Island Invitational. The Spartans split their first two matches in a typical 2-set per match tournament format before losing to a strong and eventual finalist Lake City. Tiebreakers sent our beloved team to the consolation bracket. After eking out a victory in three sets over a weaker Plainview-Elgin-Millville squad while significantly annoying their own coach, the Spartans faced the Lancers who had played extremely well in their first playoff match. Simley saved its best performance of the day for the consolation finals and swept the match with near error-free play to take the consolation championship. The Spartans squad was diminished due to several factors and found Junior middle hitter Naomi Romslo move to the outside and simply throw down 50 kills while Junior middle hitter Summer Scofield saw her first full-time play of the season adding 13 kills and timely blocks. Sophomore middle hitter Avery Renslow continued her march to volleyball excellence with 21 kills and few errors while maintaining her strong presence at the net. It is always makes a long drive home more pleasant to win at the end of a long day.

Becoming Organizers, Becoming Advocates (BOBA), is an Asian Minnesotan youth leadership and organizing program co-created with young people. BOBA offers a safe and brave space for Asian Minnesotan youth to come together to discover how their identity and leadership make them a powerful force for change. Through BOBA, young leaders explore topics and issues that impact them and their communities, learn advocacy and organizing skills, and create solutions that they can take action on to create change. We are recruiting youth to join us for our 2021-2022 cohort and would like to share this opportunity with you. For more information, see your counselor.

Supply Shortages Cause Frequent Menu Changes

Just like cafeterias and restaurants across the country, ISD 199 Food Service is experiencing many challenges receiving the products staff have ordered due to manufacturer shortages and delivery delays. These shortages and delays are affecting ingredients, menu items, and serving supplies, such as meal trays.

Food service staff will update their online menus as quickly as possible when changes need to be made. However, last minute changes and product substitutions may occur without notice due to shortages and the number of students eating meals that day. Thank you for your patience and understanding as we do our best to meet the needs of all students.

In order to get your son/daughter registered for sports you need to follow the link below to our new registration site; SmartSchool K12. When you arrive at the home site of the user portal, you will see guides available that will walk you through the registration process and setting up your parent portal, step by step.

When you are connecting your student to your parent account, you will need the STUDENT ID and their DATE OF BIRTH. You WILL NOT use a family key.

Once you are registered and you have added your student to your account, please make sure to go into your settings and add a "Funding Source". This will allow you to complete your purchases upon checkout. Do not auto-fill this section as it will not work due to security reasons.

Earlier this year we had a lot of issues with different browsers when families were registering. Please attempt to use FireFox, as it is the most successful.
