The Simley Girls volleyball team had a great two day run at the end of last week. First, the Spartans opened their home conference season in commanding fashion defeating Hastings in straight sets 25-9, 25-13, 25-10 and pushed its Metro East record to 2-0. The Raiders won the first point of the night as the Spartans missed their opening serve of the match for the last time this season, but after that the outcome of the match was never in doubt only the extent of Simley’s domination of the play this night. Over the weekend, the Spartans competed in the always strong Hopkins Invitational. Simley faced Minneapolis South and Bemidji in morning pool play and won both matches 2-1. The Spartans defeated South 25-17, 20-25, 28-18. Whatever hope South had after the second set was short-lived as Simley played very cleanly in the third set and never allowed their opponent to sniff at victory. The Bemidji match tested the confidence of the Spartans as Bemidji played extremely well to take the first set 25-9. But Simley came roaring out of the gate in the second set to even the match at a set apiece winning comfortably 25-18. The third set proved how evenly the teams were matched as it went into overtime with the Spartans showing great heart prevailing 28-26. Simley then moved into the championship playoff bracket and ran into a very strong Woodbury squad who eventually finished in 2nd place. All in all a solid performance by the Spartans in a highly-rated volleyball tournament.

Remember to check out the club fair during lunch today. There will be information available about GSA and Math League. Remember, there will be student representatives for other clubs this week. Clubs are a great way to get involved in your Simley community and build college applications.

Senior Panoramic has been cancelled for Sept. 23 and is currently being rescheduled. Please stay tuned for the rescheduled date.
