Ecolab chose Simley student Gabrielle as their 2019-2020 intern through Genesys WorksGenesys Works is a national non-profit organization with a mission to diversify the information technology industry, and each branch aims to attract and retain talent for their state. To achieve its goals, the Minnesota branch trains high school students and places them with large companies that have headquarters around the Twin Cities. This year, more than 50 companies partnered with Genesys Works Twin Cities to mentor interns. On August 13, students attended the Genesys Works Draft Day to find out which corporate partner they will intern with during the 2019-2020 school year. During the event, Simley High School senior Gabrielle Vang was selected for a yearlong paid IT internship with Ecolab.

After interviewing for and being accepted into the Genesys Works Program, Gabrielle completed an 8-week summer training to develop her professional skills and IT knowledge. The summer training gives students the tools to successfully navigate an IT work setting before they are chosen for a part-time internship. The organization also offers college access and career coaching to participating high school students as well as networking opportunities for program alumni to help launch their careers. After completing their Genesys Works internship, some students even go on to become full-time employees of their mentor company after college.

Gabrielle will work alongside a mentor from Ecolab, a global company that provides water, hygiene, and energy technologies. She will have the ability to earn at least $14,000 over her yearlong internship in addition to hands-on career experience. Gabrielle is the third Simley student to become an intern through Genesys Works. Simley alumni have also worked for Sun Country Airlines and Blue Cross Blue Shield. Congratulations to Gabrielle as she begins her internship for the 2019-2020 school year.
