Hilltop STEAMM ClassAt the beginning of the 2019-2020 school year, Media classes at Salem Hills Elementary School and the Atheneum Gifted Magnet Program expanded into STEAMM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, Math, & Media) classes. The class began offering innovative opportunities for students to enhance their communication, collaboration, critical thinking, and creativity skills with lessons linked to all of the disciplines within STEAMM.

ISD 199 staff evaluated the class after its first year, making adjustments before bringing it to the district's other elementary schools, Hilltop and Pine Bend. The evaluation process also included perspectives and suggestions from the 2019-2020 ISD 199 Student Advisory Council, a group of 4th, 7th, and 11th graders from all of the district schools who provide their insight on district operations. The council participated in a STEAMM class at Salem Hills and then discussed what they liked most and what they would change.

STEAMM class at ISD 199's other elementary schools, Hilltop and Pine Bend, launched this fall. After less than two weeks in school, Hilltop and Pine Bend students, like those in the clip below, were building robots and using code to make them complete different tasks.
