Pine Bend Garden Club harvests tomatoesPine Bend Elementary School’s Garden Club works together each spring to tend to the school gardens. They plant, weed, water, and prune each garden box to allow fresh herbs and produce to grow for the fall.

In the first month of school, Garden Club was able to harvest tomatoes, basil, corn, and kale to make salsa, pesto, and kale chips for the whole school. Students followed recipes, chopped vegetables and herbs, and measured spices to create their snacks. They also taste-tested the final product in order to balance the flavors. The pesto, salsa, and kale chips were served in the cafeteria the next day for all students to try.
